Enabling XML Auto-completion

As we saw in a previous post, you can design your model either using surfaces or XML parts. When working in XML you can benefit from Microsoft Visual Studio’s Intellisense feature by installing CodeFluent Entities’ schema. This will copy the CodeFluent Entities XSD schema in the Visual Studio XML directory and consequently the Intellisense will use this schema automatically.

To do so, in Visual Studio, get to Tools > Options… > CodeFluent Entities > Tools, then click on “Install CodeFluent Schema”:

Open a part of your CodeFluent Entities project and hit CTRL + SPACE on a cf:entity node for instance:

Ta-da! Intellisense pops-up, listing all available attributes for the current node.

Note: Core Edition users can also benefit from Visual Studio’s Intellisense as well. Use the Meta Model Explorer tool (CodeFluent.View.exe) to extract the schema to your Visual Studio version (2005, 2008, 2010).

Note that in Vista and Windows 7, one must use “Run as Administrator” to launch Visual Studio in order to install the schemas.
